The Artist

Ella Freire

“I have always had a bit of an obsession with all things tickets and luggage labels.”

Ella Freire

Ella Freire is a screen-printing artist based in London at Kindred Studion. She has been inspired by classic cars, vintage cameras and a huge collection of 60s and 70s bus and airplane luggage tags, train and bus tickets.

A few years ago, she had the time to delve back into her large collection of Pan Am luggage tags, with their wonderful graphics and iconic designs from the “Golden Age” of travel. She had always wanted to “supersize” these, as they have always appealed to her because of their simplicity and bold colours.

Ella has replicated the tags as closely as possible to the originals, with their bright colour palette. The artwork is printed on 100% cotton archival paper, then mounted onto card and cut out to shape, including the perforated edges and punched hole through a reinforced tab overlaid on the print. The labels are printed in very limited editions of 25 for each of the large and small sizes.

Ella is licensed by Pan Am Brands to create these limited-edition prints. Her highly sought-after artwork is held in collections worldwide and is also displayed in the Pan Am Museum Gallery in New York. She has also recently been licensed by TWA (American Airlines) and Braniff International to create their wonderful vintage luggage tags.

Ella has exhibited at the prestigious Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London in 2024 and 2026, and will be exhibiting for the first time this year at Art Miami in December. She has been exhibiting at The Affordable Art Fair in the UK and USA with Air Contemporary Gallery and AZArt Gallery. Ella as also exhibited at The Other Art Fair in Los Angeles, Brooklyn and Chicago.

Ella is represented exclusively in the UK by Air Contemporary in London. Ella is represented in the USA by J. Nuñez Gallery in New Jersey, AZArt Gallery in Woodstock, New York.
